The true story of how Sal Polisi—a member of a New York crime family and author of The Sinatra Club—turned his back on the mob and spoke out against organized crime.

As a wiseguy for some of New York’s biggest crime families, “Crazy Sal” Polisi couldn’t imagine another way of life—until the day he was busted and faced life behind bars. Then he decided it was time to talk, not so much for himself, but for the sake of his two teenaged sons.

Forced to assume a new identity and moving from town to town in the middle of the night, his sons chose to stand by their father. In exchange for federal protection, Polisi took a huge gamble—he decided to testify against John Gotti, the reputed head of New York’s powerful Gambino family. As packed with shocking insider details as Nicholas Pileggi’s
Wiseguy and as gripping as The Godfather—only true—Sal Polisi’s story marks his captivating transformation from ruthless criminal to devoted father and crusader against organized crime.

I give this book a 5 out of 5 stars! This book really goes into detail about what it was like for Sal and his family going into the witness protection program. We as people don’t really think about what the family goes through. Imagine being told as a child that you have to let go of everything you know and move somewhere else. Sal and his family went through a lot. Even though they had this weighing on them they still stood strong and made a good life for themselves! I recommend this book to anyone that enjoyed true crime!

I would really like to believe that Sal Polisi became a "rat" because of his love for his family, but I am leaning toward pure selfishness. He did not make a move to save his family until he got caught. He loved the life he was living (see "The Sinatra Club) and gave it up only when he was faced with imprisonment. The dedication of Rose Marie Polisi to her children and her loveless marriage to Sal took courage and heart and she lived her life the only way she knew how. She is really the "star" of ths book. Sal Polisi has an ego larger than life. All in all, a good quick read.

I thought the book was written well. It gave you insight into how the main character's mind worked
struggling between the right thing to do for his family and then the rationalization he used to justify his crimes.
It was very interesting.

Honestly, this was a good book but it is not quite as good as the father's more updated version called 'The Sinartra Club'.

Know I know why Polosi is in the witness protection program, if I helped with a book this bad I would go into hiding also, I've read tons of mob books, but this one should be whacked!!!

I met Sal when he was in witness protection and found him to be an interesting man but his Italian cooking is what stood out. He spoke of his family and his sons in college. His plan was to give his son a red Porsche for graduation, however he could not save enough so he bought him a red Mustang convertable and drove it to him for graduation. I heard about the book years later, bought and read it. It was interesting and proved a lot of what he had told us. We really never believed he was in witness protection but he was telling us the truth. I follow him and have read his other books. This is a great read.

This book is just as exciting as watching a fly go up a drape (Rickles)!
